# Built inside a roofing company.

*SayDoo didn't start in a boardroom or a startup accelerator. It started in a roofing office in Greensboro, North Carolina, with an owner who was tired of paying for software that made his team do the work twice.*

Johnathan Westbrook runs Carolinas Best Roofing in Greensboro, North Carolina. When I met him, the business was doing well, and the software was eating it alive.

He had a CRM. A texting tool. A scheduling tool. An estimating tool. Something for proposals, something for commissions, something for email. Each one charged by the seat. Getting them to talk to each other cost extra.

He was spending thousands of dollars a month, and his team was still doing the glue work by hand.

**Everybody wanted to sell him software. Nobody wanted to run his business with him.**

## The decision

I had spent years building software and marketing for growing companies, and the last few building AI applications. Johnathan had spent his career on roofs and in the office that keeps roofs getting built.

We made a simple deal. We would build the system his company actually needed, inside his company, on his real jobs and real customers. If a feature didn't help a real job that week, it didn't ship.

That rule shaped everything.

## What building on a real roof taught us

You learn different things when the software has to work on Monday morning for a crew that is already on the truck.

The crew won't install an app. So the crew screens run in the phone's browser.

Nobody will use a system that makes them retype. So every lead, estimate, job, photo and invoice lives in one set of records.

An owner won't trust AI that can embarrass him in front of a customer. So every automation arrives switched off, shows you exactly what it would send before it sends anything, and signs every change with the name of the person who asked.

Storm season doesn't wait. So the console watches the weather and tells the office which customers are in the path.

## Why "SayDoo"

Johnathan's best people don't need a form to do their job. You tell them what needs doing, and it gets done.

We wanted the software to work like that. You say it, it's done. The name came straight from that sentence.

## What it became

What started as one roofing company's system became SayDoo: we build a trade business its own AI, keep it running, and teach the team to use it.

It is still built the same way. Every console is made from the way that company already works: its stages, its price book, its words. It runs on the company's own data, and the company owns that data. We don't charge by the seat, because hiring should never raise your software bill.

And we still test everything on a real roof first.

> Software should be a result of the business, not a maze the business has to walk through.
